Covid inquiry

 There are calls for an inquiry into the governments handling of the Covid pandemic which will be a total waste of time and money.  Here's what I think.

Go back to the quarantine of the cruise ship passengers right at the beginning of all this.  For once the government took the right course of action in doing this.  Unfortunately after that the inaction seemed to be the theme of the government.  All people coming from abroad, whatever nationality should have been made to quarantine from that moment on.  There was also a valid argument for closing our borders, remember how quickly Europe closed it's borders to travellers from the UK in December 2020?  It took literally hours from the government announcing they had found a new variant of the disease.  Why the hell can't we show the same speed?  Even today our borders are still open and more importantly unpoliced.

Lockdown was a good idea, if only everyone had behaved responsibly, the thing was taking off the brakes lockdown had spoiled any good work by restrictions being removed too haphazardly and too quickly.  It seemed to me no common sense was used in removing restrictions.  Businesses that had made their premises as Covid safe as possible were not allowed to trade yet many others, supermarkets included carried on.  We had scenes of beaches full to brim with no social distancing at all. Then in September the schools reopened and it all kicked off again.

Now after the third lockdown the same scenario is about to repeat itself, yes we have the vaccine but let's face it the very people who were first in line for that were not those that were spreading the virus.

One thing that continues to puzzle me is the emphasis on closing pubs and restaurants when these were not the main source of transmission of the virus.  

So to little control far too late and leaving the borders open to anyone and everyone are the main reasons for the transmission of the virus and we don't need a £million plus inquiry to tell us that.

 So 18 counties in Europe stop the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine because of unfounded fears of blood clotting.  There is no scientific evidence of this but they go ahead anyway.  Then the head of the EU decides they will threaten to cut off supplies of the vaccine to the UK.  Millions of doses lie unused while people die of covid.  Where is the sense or humanity in this action?  It's typical of the EU to use economic muscle to threaten countries which disagree with them.  It was obvious from the start that they would find any way whatsoever to punish the UK for leaving their protectionist bloc.  But now we have the Indian government threatening to stop supplies (made under licence from the UK) to us as well.  Given the money we pour into this rich country they have a bloody cheek.  I am sick to death of powerful groups calling the shots in the world.

Ethnicity and television advertisements

 Last night while watching the advertisements during the half-time break in Sky's football coverage I noted how things have changed in the last year.  A year ago the non-white faces in advertisement probably represented the population as a whole.  Now we rarely see an advertisement without a black face in it. Mixed race couples abound as do same sex couples but that's another story.  I'm not saying we should only have white faces in advertisements but surely this is too much.  I remember how long it took to change the way women were portrayed in advertisements, more than a year!  Today we have a total dominance of one type of person and I for one would like to stop it and show advertisements which are representative of the whole population.  I live a few miles outside Manchester, a so-called melting pot of different races but walk around the area I live and a black face is a rare sight we have Chinese and Indian locals.  Let's get some sense of pr...

Football

 We watch a lot of football in our house simply because we like football though we don't support an particular team. I love the passing game, players moving the ball around the pitch is a joy to watch . Lately there are several things that have begun to annoy me.  The first thing is the way players spit all over the pitch, surely this isn't necessary/it doesn't happen in any other sport, rugby players don't do it.  Surely this is a health hazard just as much as is blood on a players shirt?  There is no need for it and it's a dirty habit which is a bad example to youngsters.  Then there is the histrionics when tackles are made, players go down as if they are badly injured when that is clearly not the case.  It seems to happen a lot more in the closing minutes of the game especially to a player on the leading side.  It's cheating plain and simple.  Another thing is picking up the ball to prevent the opposition from taking a free kick quickly, hand b...
